Weird Pet Glitches    2010-03-10
Question: Did you DISMISS the pets or ABANDON the pets. Sorry for the caps, but want to make sure you see the difference. If you just dismissed them, they weren't gone (ie the first owl was still your active pet). Then, you went and tried to tame a second pet (the vulture). Because the owl was still actually your pet, when you tamed the second one it sent your owl to the stable. The same thing happened when you went to get spider, it sent the vulture to the stable as well. Finally, when you tamed the 4th pet, it sent your third pet to the stable as well even though there aren't enough stable slots for that. Sounds insane, I know. I saw someone post this in a thread months ago and thought they were crazy so I went and tested it out myself. I had 2 pets in...
I've tried training a Devilsaur and Silithid, but so far I prefer my good ol' Ravager. The Devilsaur seems nice, but it's so mainstream. With Monstrous Bite and Rabid running, he does some serious damage, though. The Silithid's web would probably be ace in Arenas since it's ranged, but I like my Ravager's stun attack. The question is, since none of the exotic pets interest me, should I dump Beast Mastery and spend the point elsewhere? Or are the extra four Pet Skill Points worth it?-We're the descendants, salute the descendants, of King Canute. - Nephew Mazrah - Troll...
Simutronics founder and CEO David Whatley sits down with Steve to discuss the finer points of HeroEngine, as well as some updates on the status of their upcoming original MMO, Hero’s Journey. The MMO Gamer: First of all, for those among our readers who may be unfamiliar, could you please introduce yourself to us and tell us a little about what it is you do at Simutronics.David Whatley: I’m David Whatley, the President and CEO of Simutronics, which means I don’t get to do much anymore. People just kind of come to me and tell me to sign things at this point. I’m also basically the chief architect of our technology, so that would be HeroEngine at this point. The MMO Gamer: HeroEngine is, of course, the reason why we’re here. Unless, of course, you’d like to give me some world exclusives on Hero’s Journey, in which case by all means, feel free!If not, the reason I’m personally interested in the HeroEngine is because I’m an old MUD guy, as I’m sure you are.David Whatley: That’s how I got my start! The MMO Gamer: Those were the days, let me tell you.David Whatley: They were, but it’s still the days for us, we still do it. We’ve got three sides to our business, one of them is still the text-based game stuff. It’s about a quarter of our revenue. The MMO Gamer: And now you’re trying to bring some of that MUD flavor back into MMOs?David Whatley: Not just the MUD flavor, but the technology that we used to give it that flavor, the fact that the game can be evolving while you’re playing it, because it’s all live and collaborative. The MMO Gamer: You know what would really win me over? If there were a little check box in the settings for “Text Only Mode,” and it just went to a blank screen with white text that said things like, “You are standing in a green, verdant field. There is...
Teenage Alpha Tester!    2009-10-15
An young Alpha tester from Blizzard inner circles, sends out his story which is filled with information and class info as well as the dread subject: PvP.Not much new, but an extraordinary well written article. What World of Warcraft IS TodayLet's start with the first one. It's fun. It's a LOT of fun. Remember that magic you felt the first time you clicked with EverQuest? It's back, and it's back in huge buckets full. The first time you hear the snow crunch under your feet in Khaz Modan as your breath steams in the air, or the first time you ride a wyvern across the Barrens of Kalimdor or the first time an NPC shouts out your name, celebrating you saving the day at the end of a long quest, you'll f...
Ithalyan Speaks    2009-09-22
As I have been writing about making monsters more interesting, rather than beefier I realized another player habit had always bugged me. Whether I was watching silently as a DM or playing with other folks I would notice that the issue of power leveling and power buffing always became an issue. What is this behavior? Why do players do it? What can be done to make things not so out of balance? This type of play seems to prevail throughout all Multiplayer CRPG's; whether it is Diablo, NWN 1, World of Warcraft. Players just seem to find ways to make things far to easy for the rewards they play for.In NWN1, it was easy to log into your high level arcane or divine caster character buff up a party and follow them around. The results are super powered low level PC's would gain rewards for what is almost no risk. On some PW's players would take at least one higher level PC with them to fend off the real danger and make things soft for the low levelers. Here are the issues at hand. Why do players do it, what is this behavior?1) They want to play with thier friends who have higher level PC's2) They want to advance as fast as possible.3) It makes things easy. Reward without too much risk....

Article Source: www.warcry.com.Rolling a character is one of the best parts of playing an MMORPG, bringing to mind the excitement of taking on a new role, the anticipation of adventuring with this character, and the simple yet elegant fun of roleplaying with a new personality. Perhaps all these thoughts flooding the brain have been too daunting for some, especially us roleplayers, who often take our character creation to heart. I have been asked many times the question of how to best roll a character for RP purposes. I have also heard enough roleplayers tell me how they roll their characters to know there is no one single best way to take on the task. I too have created my share of MMORPG characters over many MMO's to discover this fact, while at the same time developing my own way to accomplish this vital feat. During my Army career, I was introduced to the widely known K.I.S.S. principle, and it is a superb one to follow when rolling a character. Now, I also create the history for my characters at the time of creation, rather than trying to specifically think and write it afterwards. To that end, I have added yet another common element to the K.I.S.S. principle, that being the Five W's: ...
First of all, I'm brand new to this forum deal and slightly sore that I haven't diovered this awesomeness sooner (I might have been level 70 mh, mh sooner if I had). Third of all, if I am asking a stupid andor ridulous question, just ignore me and move on rather than being nasty about it :) Ok to the point... I have done next to NO...

Doesn't do you mh good, while Holy Shield is up* Also when being attked from behind sie youan't parry or blk.Being attked from behind is a rare cassion and not something you should be gearing for. If you are being attked from behind it should never be more than a single swing anyway. I never said you should gear for that spif casion. Leaving an open ended statementan be misleading, thus throwing out possibilities is perftly ceptable...
